These are my picks for the best events happening this year in our little town. When I get to play tourist, I don’t like crowds. So these aren’t necessarily the “biggest” events, nor the most publicized. But each one captures some of the quirkiness, artiness, or plain old-fashioned fun that makes Eureka Springs a great place to visit! In chronological order:
March 26th: Kite Festival at Turpentine Creek
I did not grow up flying kites. So trying it in my fifties – with one purchased from the Dollar store with a group of friends – was a blast! And you’ll get to see large colorful creations flown by people who know what they’re doing. Bring a picnic lunch and visit Turpentine Creek afterwards – great way to spend a Saturday!
April 15 – 16: Carving in the Ozarks
Men and women brandishing chain saws – no, not the latest slasher flick! You’ll enjoy witnessing the incredible creativity that turns hunks of wood into beautiful artwork – eagles, bears, fish, and more. And you’ll want to take them home! More Information
May 7: ArtRageous Parade
May is officially dedicated to the arts and this parade really showcases our town’s creativity. You never know what you’ll see! There’s something special about the way Spring street snakes through tall, century-plus-old buildings. And nothing is as American as a small town parade!
May 20: White Street Walk
If you ask locals their favorite event of the year, 9 out of 10 will say this Friday in May when the artists who live on White Street open their homes and studios and throw a big block party. They are joined by more than forty guest artists, who will show watercolors, jewelry, pottery, stained glass, and much more. So come out and buy some art, nibble on goodies, and enjoy the street fair atmosphere!
And on Saturday, May 21: Gallery Stroll and Free Music in Basin Spring Park
Sounds like a great weekend to me! More Information
June 4: Mustang Show
Who doesn’t like Mustangs?! One of my favorite car shows of the year. And another parade!
