Robert and I took a rare day off yesterday (thanks to Mindy, our housekeeper/office helper) and visited Hobbs State Park, which is Arkansas’s largest state park and only about 40 minutes from the Tall Pines.
The park boasts 35 miles of back-country trails that are mountain biker, hiker, equestrian, and hunter friendly. In fact, Hobbs is the only Arkansas park that allows seasonal hunting. Robert and I chose the Bashore Ridge Loop – he mountain-biked 5 miles and I was pleased to survive 3 miles of hiking!
Afterwards, we drove about 10 minutes to War Eagle Mill – a working gristmill and site of the famous Arts and Craft Fair every October. The shop features organic flours and mixes and other goodies. We bought their Blue Corn Pancake Mix. Unfortunately, the Bean Palace Restaurant was already closed so we missed our chance to eat their delicious beans and cornbread and cobbler!
Also close by and worth a visit is War Eagle Cavern which offers affordable family fun in a natural setting.
So if you haven’t decided what to do for Mom this weekend (5/8 & 9), bring her here! We have lots of options available, and if you mention this blog, you’ll get 15% off!
